As the thermometer regularly climbs above 30 °C in the Three Borders, health authorities are calling for caution across the region during this hot spell.

In Sierck-les-Bains, Apach, Perl, Schengen and neighbouring towns, residents and visitors are looking for ways to cool down while enjoying the summer. When the sun is out, it is important to have the right reflexes to avoid heat-related risks.

Older people, young children, outdoor workers and people with chronic illnesses are particularly at risk. Dehydration, feeling unwell or heatstroke can come on quickly when temperatures stay high for several days in a row.

The main recommendations include:

  • Drink water regularly, without waiting until you are thirsty.
  • Avoid physical exertion during the hottest hours of the day, between 11 am and 6 pm.
  • Keep your home cool by closing shutters and windows during the day.
  • Go to shaded and air-conditioned places whenever possible.
  • Wear light, loose, light-coloured clothing.
  • Check in regularly on older or isolated people around you.

Pets also need special attention. They must always have fresh water and must never be left in a car, even for a short time.

Despite the high temperatures, summer is still perfect for outdoor activities, provided you adapt your timing and watch out for signs of fatigue or dehydration.

The next summer events, in particular the Nocturnes du Terroir in Sierck-les-Bains, offer convivial entertainment in the cooler evening air.

In the face of the heat, prevention remains the best reflex. A few simple gestures help you make the most of the summer while protecting your health and that of your loved ones.
