The Rettel Book Fair returns to the Rettel multi-purpose hall on Sunday 4 October 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm. Organised by the Lire en fête association, the day is dedicated to literature, creativity and conviviality, and entry is free.

This new edition brings together 60 authors, mainly from the Grand Est region, including three from Belgium. Almost 30% of them are taking part for the first time, and priority was given to writers who published a book in 2025 or 2026.

Books for every taste

Comics, manga, children's and young adult fiction, romance, crime, thrillers, life stories, wellbeing, geopolitics… Visitors can discover a wide variety of worlds: there is something for every reader, young or old.

Régis Hector, patron of the fair

The fair's patron is Régis Hector, a press cartoonist since 1986 and a member of Cartooning for Peace. The author of some thirty comic books and illustrator of novels and history books, he has made drawing a universal language. Passing on his craft matters to him: in schools, he raises young people's awareness of freedom of expression.

He will run a comics workshop for 10 to 14-year-olds (registration required): he will present his work from script to inking, talk about the professions involved in making books and share a few drawing tips.

Workshops, a legend and a quiz

  • A bookmark-making workshop, for children and adults alike, run by Christelle Baratto Deutscher.
  • At 3 pm, a legend to discover with local author Pascal Wuttke.
  • All day long, a literary quiz that takes visitors from stand to stand, to meet the authors, their books and their covers.
  • In the late afternoon, a prize draw to win a basket of local produce.

The legend of the Druids' Path

This legend was born from a “wonderful coincidence” on a path known as the Druids' Path. Pascal Wuttke was there that day: a young bearded traveller with long hair, coming from the Compostela area, stopped to rest by a tree that the author tells of in one of his books.

This mysterious tree is said to have been planted on a druid's grave and later cut down: this is where the real legend of the tree and the stone begins. Is it a tree, is it a druid? Further coincidences followed, until the story took shape by a small stream in the village of Boust.

Schools in the spotlight

For several years, the association has organised a homemade bookmark competition in the area's schools. This year the theme was free, and three schools took part. The winners will receive children's and young adult books, bought directly from the authors at the fair and presented at the opening.
