IRAN – USA… What's at stake in a possible war!
Tensions between Iran and the United States keep flaring up.

Tensions between Iran and the United States keep flaring up. Even if a direct confrontation remains hypothetical for now, the consequences of a military escalation would be serious, both geopolitically and economically.
A strategic point: the Strait of Hormuz
One of the key issues concerns the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world's oil is transported. Any disruption to this strategic sea route could quickly push up crude oil prices, with immediate consequences for international markets.
Even a temporary closure would mean:
- shortages in global energy supply
- rising fuel prices
- increased inflationary pressure in Europe
The risk of a regional conflagration
Iran has complex relations with several players in the region. A direct confrontation could indirectly draw in other countries in the Middle East and turn a bilateral crisis into a wider regional conflict.
Analysts fear in particular:
- an increase in indirect attacks
- cyberattacks
- a destabilisation of existing diplomatic balances
The consequences for Europe!
Even though it is geographically far away, Europe would be affected:
- rising energy costs
- turmoil on the financial markets
- a possible economic slowdown
For border regions like the Three Borders, persistently high oil prices could lead to higher prices at the pump and greater pressure on purchasing power.
Diplomacy or confrontation?
For now, diplomacy remains the preferred route. Past crises have shown that high tensions do not necessarily lead to open conflict. Nevertheless, the situation is being closely watched by markets and governments around the world.
