Did you hear sirens on Thursday morning or receive an alert on your phone? Don't worry.

This Thursday, 10 September 2026, Germany held its Bundesweiter Warntag, the national test day for public warning systems.

From 11 am, a test alert was broadcast through various channels: mobile phones, warning apps, the media, sirens and other local means. A signal that could also be heard across the border, especially in French areas close to Germany.

The aim? To check that the various systems are working properly and that the alert chain is ready in a real emergency. The exercise also helps identify any problems so that the system can be improved.

The public did not need to do anything: it was just a test.

At around 11:45 am, an all-clear message was due to be broadcast to mark the end of the exercise.
